1. Key fluxes for aluminum electrolysis industry
Melting point adjustment: Pure alumina has a melting point of up to 2054 ° C. After adding cryolite, a molten electrolyte is formed, and the melting point drops to 950-970 ° C, significantly reducing energy consumption.
Optimization of electrolysis system: Cryolite melt has good conductivity and lower density than liquid aluminum, allowing the aluminum liquid to deposit at the bottom of the electrolysis cell, resulting in high separation efficiency and inhibition of aluminum oxidation.
Dissolved alumina: At the electrolysis temperature, cryolite can dissolve about 10% of alumina, forming a uniform electrolysis system.
Other industrial applications
2. Material manufacturing
Glass industry: As a light blocking agent for milky white glass and an opalescent agent for enamel glaze, it gives products a uniform white appearance.
Wear resistant material: used as a wear-resistant filler for grinding wheels and rubber products to enhance material hardness and durability.
3. Metallurgy and Casting
Metal flux: Covering the metal surface in aluminum alloy and iron alloy smelting to prevent oxidation and remove slag.
Casting oxidation prevention: Spraying on the surface of molten iron can dilute the slag and decompose to produce AlF3 gas, protecting the metal interface.
4. Special function applications
Fireworks color developer: makes the flame appear in a yellow spectrum.
Insecticides: Used for agricultural pest control, but attention should be paid to the risk of fluoride toxicity.
